Navigating Halloween

October 23, 2015

 halloween haul

Halloween is such a fun time of year for kids and adults alike. Costumes, decorations, candy, candy, and more candy. I haveso many fond memories of Trick or Treating when I was a kid, and honestly my favourite memory was at the end of the night, dumping out all of the candy that I had collected, and sorting them into categories.

safe & effective all-purpose cleanser

October 01, 2015

Nobody likes cleaning. Well that’s not true, I have a friend who LOVES cleaning, but I think she’s the exception to the rule. I know I don’t like it but of course it has to be done. For years now we’ve been relying on good ol’ baking soda, vinegar, castile soap and a few other gentle yet effective options

Nut-free snack for school

September 25, 2015

My daughters class is nut-free, so we’re always looking for healthy and nut-free snacks. The Classic Glo Bar recipe from fellow Canadian Angela Liddon’s amazing vegan cookbook is a great alternative. It’s so much healthier than typical granola bars, packed with hemp, chia, oatmeal, seeds, and held together with a mix of brown rice syrup (has a lower glycemic index so you’ll avoid blood sugar spikes) and nut-free butter.

Ingredient Spotlight: Argan Oil

September 23, 2015

We pride ourselves on using the best quality ingredients. To borrow one of my favourite words from my late Dad, we’re also not chintzy about it. Our first ingredient in our Balancing Face Oil is Argan Oil, which tells a little about where our head is at when we create and blend our goods.

Calendula & Rose Cleansing Grains

September 19, 2015

Sometimes the simplest things are the best things. I personally don't think that facial cleansers need to be harsh, or stripping, or full of strong detergents in order to do a good job.

The Perfect Fall Snack

September 17, 2015

Who doesn’t like banana bread really? It’s the classic snack, great for on-the-go and terrific as a litter-less snack for school-aged kids. A lot of coffee shops often sell individually wrapped slices, but to me they’re often lacking flavour, or made with questionable ingredients, and way too much sugar for my palate.

Back To School!

September 02, 2015

Wow, I cannot believe it is September already! Why does the summer always fly by? My eldest requested a new lunch bag this week, and it got me thinking about the eco-friendly choices we make as a family when packing lunches for school.

Taking a Closer Look at Ingredients in Skincare Products

July 16, 2015

The chemicals in our skincare. We all know they are there, but for most of us, we just use it and don’t really give that much thought about what those words mean, or what those chemicals are, or how they may or may not impact your health.

Bare Bum Balm: Not for bums only!

July 09, 2015

Sola Skincare Bare Bum Balm

While at the beach the other day (where we’ve been spending a lot of time lately – not complaining!) a good friend mentioned how she had been using our Bare Bum Balm on a rash that had developed on her older sons body after too much time in the pool.

Doing our part to conserve water

July 08, 2015

So many of us in the Lower Mainland and surrounding areas woke up to the smell of campfire and a strange haze in the air over the last few days. Unfortunately, we didn’t wake up at the cottage or camping, which was my first thought as memories of my cottage came flooding back as I breathed in that air. This was because of all the forest fires that have been happening in our province in the last few days. We’ve had a very dry Spring and early Summer, with no end in sight.

We are so fortunate to live in a community that has such strong support for small local businesses. Some of our favourite places to shop include Soko Tea House in Port Moody run by a lovely family we’ve gotten to know.

The Connection Between Early Puberty and Chemicals?

June 18, 2015

When reading Aviva Domm’s article, “What’s a Mom to Do? Preventing Early Puberty and Hormone Problems In Our Daughters” I wasn’t surprised that the second BIGGEST contributor to early puberty in girls was exposure to environmental toxins.
