Protecting Chapped Cheeks in Colder Weather

Now that the colder weather is here, I’ve noticed a lot of cold and red cheeks on kids around the ‘hood. I’ve also seen some comments on Mom pages about treating those chapped cheeks, and recommendations to use a petroleum jelly based product. There are a few reasons why I don’t think that’s a good idea.

Petroleum Jelly is a derivative of oil refining; a byproduct of the oil industry and an unsustainable resource. It coats the skin; it doesn’t moisturize, rather is creates a barrier which holds moisture in. It’s not breathable or water-soluble. It’s highly comedogenic (meaning it clogs the pores).

Instead of petroleum jelly, try our Bare Bum Balm. It contains coconut oil, olive oil infused with healing herbs, beeswax and cocoa butter. These natural ingredients moisturize and protect the skin, without any of the worries about nasty ingredients.
