DIY Homemade Toothpaste Recipe

Has anyone tried to make their own toothpaste? With more and more companies being busted for problematic chemicals in their products, it’s something I’ve done for a few years now and I don’t think I’ll ever go back to conventional toothpaste.  My dentist approves, so I’m happy.

My current blend is:

5 tbsp calcium carbonate powder (buy here or make your own by boiling, drying and crushing eggshells)

2 tbsp baking soda

1.5 tbsp xylitol (not necessary but makes it a bit more palatable)

7 tbsp coconut oil

30 drops peppermint essential oil

This makes quite a bit, so you can scale up or down depending on your needs. Mix all ingredients together well, and keep your homemade toothpaste in a glass jar.

This recipe is something I'm personally comfortable with but I'm not a dental professional, so make sure to check with your dentist before trying something new.
